John graduated from the University of Hull with an honours degree in drama before training as an actor at ALRA. He has worked extensively in the industry for 25 years both as an actor and director. Recent acting credits include The Intern (Channel 4), New Tricks (BBC), Murder on the Home Front (ITV), adverts for Bid TV, Netflix, Cineworld (Christmas advert 2019) and in February 2020, Schweppes (for Israeli television).

In addition to acting, John is an experienced director and throughout his career has directed over 70 productions. Recent credits include an agents showcase for graduate actors in the West End, a production of Can't Stand up for Falling Down at the New Wimbledon Studio Theatre and Mark Ravenhill’s Citizenship as part of the Royal National Theatre Connections Project 2016 at Watermans Arts Centre. In the summer of 2016 he conceptualised Eavesdropping, which he directed for Barons Court Theatre. Due to its overwhelming success he created More Eavesdropping in February 2017, which enjoyed another sell-out run. In July 2017, John directed Sarah Kane's 4:48 Psychosis, which received 5 star reviews. This was followed by Sartre's masterpiece, No Exit in November 2017, Genet's The Maids in February 2018 and Neil LaBute's Autobahn in May 2018. John created and directed Eavesdropping Again, the third instalment in the "Eavesdropping" franchise in October 2018. In February 2019, he directed a production of Samuel Beckett's Footfalls and Play, which enjoyed a sell-out run at The Jack Studio Theatre and achieved 5 star reviews. In December 2019, John conceptualised and directed a new piece of verbatim theatre, Stray, which explored the plight of London's homeless community and enjoyed a sell-out run at the White Bear Theatre. John's most recent production was a trio of Samuel Beckett plays; Not I, Catastrophe & Rockaby, which played at The Jack Studio Theatre in February and March 2020. John is delighted to have been nominated for an OffWestEnd Theatre Award - Director (Plays) for his work on this production.

When theatres closed due to the Covid 19 pandemic, John organised and directed Sundays in the Park With Angel. Over the summer months of 2020, he gathered six new plays that he believed had potential and held weekly workshops to produce an open-air rehearsed reading of each play in various London parks. The aim of the project was to facilitate creativity to continue in the most challenging time for the arts in a generation! The gatherings provided an opportunity for creatives to meet new contacts, network and share not only their concerns, but hopes for the future of our jobs and industry. John was adamant that all these sessions were live and that we met in person, not via Zoom. He deplores the suggestion that theatre may have to become recorded and streamed to survive. This will not be his “new normal” as, for John, theatre is a live event, or it is simply not theatre!

During lockdown, John used the time to try something new and wrote his first play, Forsaking Others. This will premiere at The Bread and Roses Theatre in November 2020. He is currently writing his second play, a piece titled Innocence.

John has taught, mentored and nurtured many successful young actors entering the profession. He gives regular masterclasses to actors which have recently been delivered at ALRA, Arts Ed, Italia Conti, Drama Studio London, Royal Holloway University of London and The Royal Ballet School. He has also led several sessions on behalf of Angel Theatre Company to give advice and guidance to established actors as well as those who are new to the profession.

He is a founder member and Artistic Director of Angel Theatre Company, which aims to produce challenging, character driven productions in some of London's top fringe venues.
