Summer School
Steppin Out Stars Of Tomorrow has become very well known in the area for its excellent summer schools. These have run for 10 years in the summer holidays.
Each year gets bigger and better!
The children learn or perfect skills in a variety of Dance, Drama and Singing lessons leading to a full-scale musical show in just 5 days in a professional theatre.
Learning to work with industry professionals, Theatre Managers, Choreographers, Directors and Technicians is also all part of the five day experience.
We have children travel as far as Windsor and Maidenhead and as local as Winnersh, Wokingham and Crowthorne.
The venues are always local and are in the Woodley and Wokingham area. For the past five years we have hired The Whitty Theatre at Luckley House school as well as the newly furbished Bulmershe school auditorium, with teared seating.
What is unique about our summer camp is the experience of being in a professional theatre for almost a week.
Tickets are available through a link to the show given to all children when they enrol, and seats are strictly on a first come first served basis. To book the summer school you need to contact Shelley on the contact us page on our website. A non-refundable deposit is taken and then the balance is due two weeks before the start of the summer camp.
The children take part in two summer school shows for ages 6-17yrs and one show for the 3.5-5yrs age group. They rehearse Monday-Thursday and then on the Friday each child gets to perform in the big show in a special costume in front of an audience!
The summer schools usually follows a Musical Theatre theme of a current popular film or show. Previous years have included Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia, The Greatest Showman, Trolls, High School Musical, Wicked, Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz to name some of our favourites. Our 2020 summer workshops were condensed to 1 day and online due to Covid 19.
Some summer school students come back year in year out to experience the sheer magic of a week at Steppin Out!
Many have appeared in all sorts of shows and performances before and others have never tried anything like this and are shy. Everyone is welcome and many children leave the camp often saying how it has been the highlight of their summer holiday!
Our summer school students enjoy the week so much they very often enrol into our weekly performing arts classes in September.
Summer schools usually run the last week of July/ first week of August and the third week of August depending on venue and staff availability. It is always a superb week that is lots of hard work but immensely exciting and rewarding.
Parents are invited after the show to view a gallery of production shots and portrait photos of their child to take home and purchase as a summer souvenir or to show a proud grandparent if they so wish.
